The Cleveland Transformation Alliance has sent to the Ohio Department of Education a letter regarding SMART Academy, a charter school proposed to open in Cleveland for the 2018-19 school year.
The Transformation Alliance is concerned that this proposed school does not meet the standards of quality that Cleveland's Plan for Transforming Schools expects of all schools, both district and charter, in Cleveland.
State law requires that sponsors use objective criteria created by the Transformation Alliance, the Ohio Department of Education, and the Ohio Association of Charter School Authorizers to determine if they will authorize new community schools located within the boundaries of the Cleveland school district. This letter addresses whether or not the proposed opening of SMART Academy meets these criteria.
